Statement

Mirrors and sand, my two constants, are exemplars of dependent origination, one of which is an obscenity of sand’s inherent freedom. Despite, the source and product are extremely similar in function, both are always in flux. My process is a nod to these facts. What lies beyond articulation, nonduality, is the motivation, the goal I seek to show, not tell.

Sand will always triumph; there is no use in fighting. All the work will eventually give in, whether through pressure or erosion. The journey from concept to sketches and then into physicality is a replication of this decay of form. Such is shown in the precise materials chosen within the two constants. The sand is rocky, a recognition of the previous stage of erosion. The mirrored surface is muddled; primarily to reduce the iterations of reflections needed to dissolve the forms into formlessness, secondarily to provide an initial reflection that already merges the viewer and their environment.
